Apostolic Church in North America, Inc.SM
SM We claim our Church name and logo, in use by this Church since 1927, as our legal service mark. We have placed "sm" below the name and logo on our letterheads and other documents using this name and logo. The use of our name in any context without our written permission shall be considered a violation of our Service Mark and our legal rights and action shall be taken.
STATEMENT OF FACT. This is documented legally.
1. The copyright and service mark claims above.
2. That we are the same corporation (Church established by the Russian Synod of Bishops in North America - Moscow Patriarchate and) incorporated and headed by Abp. Aftimios.
Anyone can obtain copies of the public documents. We have a certified document with the names of the officers and directors as of Aug. 5, 1999. Be careful of the impostors who claim they are us using our name or another name. Also be wary of those who brag about their lines and the many pages they compile to "prove" their lines are valid.
Established by the Russian Orthodox Synod of Bishops in North America on Feb. 2, 1927 and Incorporated Feb. 1, 1928.
We are the first Church established to serve the English speaking Orthodox Community in North America. Our name is The Holy Eastern Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church in North America, Inc. [sm] but we are better known by our approved and used short name - The American Orthodox Catholic Church [sm]. We were established Feb. 2, 1927 and incorporated on Feb. 1, 1928. You will find more about us on our other pages.
We do not seek communion with such ethnic churches as the Orthodox Church of Greece, the Orthodox Church in America, and the Coptic Orthodox Church, all of whom knowingly and intentionally violate the Sacred and Divine Canons. The first two groups pray with excommunicated individuals contrary to the Apostolic Canons (those who pray with the excommunicated shall be excommunicated). The Coptic Church punishes newly baptized members already with non-Coptic spouses by refusing communion contrary to the Canons. The Coptic Church attempts to coerce the new members to communion by teaching them to leave the marriage bed and/or seek civil divorce contrary to Canons. These churches have placed themselves outside and above the Sacred and Divine Canons.
The Metropolitan and the members of our synod have valid line tracing from the Church of the East, the Russian Church (lines through Abp. Aftimios) and other orthodox lines. There are some who state that the Aftimios succession died when Alexander Turner died. That is false. This Church has recognized lines from the Russian Church that can be called Aftimios lines since they run through this Church and our former clergy. Our lines do not go through the DeWittow - Plummer - Propheta or Zurawetsky lines.
We have been contacted by a few individuals seeking copies of our lines, which we do not publish anymore than the Russian or Greek Churches would. We also have been contacted by a couple of individuals claiming to be Orthodox clergy stating we are not who we claim to be and we do not have the Aftimios line of succession. It is very simple to make stupid statements when you do not know what you are talking about. The Russian lines of Apostolic Succession from Abp. Aftimios are not limited to the DeWittow-Plummer- Propheta lines. These individuals make claims that show they are not orthodox, do not follow the Rudder, make unapproved changes to the traditional services and claim lines from or mixed with non-Orthodox lines from or traced to excommunicated individuals.
Please review our pages and learn about this Church. We are the original Church (and corporation) that was established Feb. 2, 1927 and incorporated by Archbishop Aftimios on Feb. 1, 1928.
We welcome your inquiries. If your a member of the clergy interested in serving a traditional Orthodox Church but are confused by the numerous claims, especially about the lines and Church of Abp. Aftimios or a former seminary student please check our page Traditional Orthodoxy and decide for yourself where you want to continue your ministry.
NOTICE: We are NOT in communion with, associated with or in any other way tied to the numerous independent churches claiming to be us under another name, using our name, or claiming their lines of apostolic succession come from this Church.
WE ARE - the first Canonically established Church in North America to serve the English speaking Orthodox community. We were established 43 years before the OCA who obtained their toma from a dying Russian Patriarch and who also have a problem with acceptance by the entire Orthodox community. We know who we are and as a canonically established Church state the following facts.
a. The orthodox community has turned their back on the entire Church
contrary to Canon.
b. The Russian Church Moscow Patriarchate have violated the Charter
granted this Church.
c. The entire orthodox community has violated their tradition of one Church per country.
The Russian Church was the first Orthodox Church to enter the United States as a mission Church and later most of the various Orthodox churches established their jurisdictions instead of coming under the Russian Synod, the proper way. The various jurisdictions now claim they have rights to do this and that in the US while ignoring tradition, Canons and or Charter. The Ecumenical Patriarch even stated it was time to establish an American Church.
We are the American Church even if they deny it, which they have not done to date. They just ignore us. They cannot deny the truth. We are who we claim to be and are in our assigned, by Charter, jurisdiction while they, the canonical Churches, violate the canons and traditions of the Orthodox Church and the Charter that established the first American Orthodox jurisdiction.
Our Church continues today as a small, active, traditional orthodox church. If you have any doubts about someone being from this Church please do not hesitate to contact us. Many continue to use our name, or claim to be us and one Church has even claimed in a directory to be the continuation of this Church. Many do not even use the correct liturgies, many act contrary to the canons of the Church and claim it's all right since the canons are old, and outdated! No! The canons must be obeyed by members as well as clergy.
