Copyright 2002 - Victor Prentice The symbol SM is our claim that the Church name is a service mark of this Church. The American Orthodox Catholic ChurchSM was the original short name of The Holy Eastern Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church in North America, Inc.® We still use this name occasionally but have shortened it for general use to American Orthodox Church because the shorter name states who we are and why we were established originally: we also are known by the acronym of that name AOCC. Other groups use our name, but they are not associated with this Church in any way. One was a man in Florida, who had posed as a patriarch of the AOCC, as a doctor, and as a counselor. (This was documented by individuals who had contact with him, the State Department of Corrections, and news reports.) He wrote drug prescriptions claiming to be a medical doctor from out of state and was convicted, we understand, of eight counts of practicing medicine without a license. We heard he died recently and we believe his small, maybe one-man church may have died with him. There are also other groups who use this name about whom we have no information. We suggest you go to our index page for more information on our Church and our various websites. If you hear of others using this Church name and would like to find out if they are a part of the original Church and corporation that was headed by Archbishop Aftimios please do not hesitate to contact us. Our full corporate name is: The Holy Eastern Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church in North America, Inc.® Our short name is: American Orthodox Catholic ChurchSM. This Church is chartered and in communion with us: Orthodox Catholic ChurchSM, Michigan and Texas. |
